Planting
When preparing to plant, it is important to first loosen the soil to a depth of about 12 inches. Incorporating organic matter, such as compost or aged manure, can help improve soil fertility and drainage. Dig a hole that is twice as wide and just as deep as the root ball of the plant. Be sure to make the hole large enough to accommodate the roots without overcrowding. After carefully removing the plant from its container, gently loosen the roots if necessary. Place the plant in the center of the hole, ensuring that it is level with the soil line. As you backfill the hole with soil, gently firm it around the roots to eliminate any air pockets. To help the soil settle and ensure good root-to-soil contact, it is recommended to thoroughly water the plant after planting. During the first growing season, make sure to keep the soil consistently moist, but do not let it become waterlogged as the plant establishes itself.
