Prepare the soil for planting, and add organic matter such as compost to improve drainage and enrich the soil. Spring or fall are the ideal times to plant Shepherdia argentea, avoiding extreme weather conditions. Space multiple plants 5-6 feet apart to accommodate their mature size, and choose a planting location with enough room for the shrub to grow. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball, and gently loosen the roots before placing the shrub at the same level as the soil surface. Firmly fill the hole with soil, and water thoroughly to ensure proper settling and hydration. Keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged.
