Features

Discover the allure of Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace', a stunning plant to enhance any garden or landscape. Its striking deciduous shrub features deeply cut, dark purple leaves that beautifully offset the soft pink blooms that bloom in spring. As the season unfolds, the shrub is adorned with glossy elderberries, providing both aesthetic appeal and attracting birds and pollinators to your garden.

What is the average size of a Black Lace Elderberry?

6-8 feet in height and a width of 5-6 feet

Planting

Prepare the soil for planting by loosening it to a depth of 12 inches and incorporating organic matter, such as compost, for improved drainage and fertility. Black Lace elderberry should ideally be planted in early spring or late fall, during its dormant period, to establish strong roots before facing extreme weather. Dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball and gently place the plant at the same depth it was growing in its container. Firmly backfill the hole and water thoroughly. During the first growing season, maintain consistently moist soil without overwatering. The pH of the soil should be slightly acidic to neutral, within the range of 5.5 to 7.5 for optimal growth.
